Pacemaker insertion is the implantation of a small electronic device that is usually placed in the chest just below the collarbone to help regulate slow electrical problems with the heart.
A pacemaker may be recommended to ensure that the heartbeat does not slow to a dangerously low rate.
Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator is a small battery-powered device placed in the chest. It detects and stops dangerous arrhythmias. It delivers electric shocks, when needed, to restore a regular heart rhythm.
You might need an ICD if you have a dangerously fast heartbeat called ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. An ICD also may be recommended if you're at high risk of dangerous arrhythmia because of a weak heart muscle.
Leadless Pacemaker is a one-piece device a provider implants into your heart by way of a vein. Unlike with traditional pacemakers, you don’t need a separate battery under your skin or leads that go to your heart. Signals from a leadless pacemaker keep your heart beating normally.
Electrophysiological Studies are test used to evaluate your heart's electrical system and to check for abnormal heart rhythms. During an EP study, your doctor inserts small, thin wire electrodes into a vein in the groin . He will thread the wire electrodes through the vein and into the heart. Once in the heart, the electrodes measures the heart’s electrical signals; the provider may map the spread of the heart’s electrical impulses during each beat. This may be done to help find the source of an abnormal heartbeat.
