Pulmonary thrombectomy is an emergency surgical procedure used to remove blood clots from the pulmonary arteries (pulmonary embolism). Mechanical thrombectomies can be percutaneous with manual or mechanical aspiration with catheters introduced through the neck or the groin veins into the puolmoary artery, it can be life saving.
EKOS uses a combination of drugs and ultrasound waves to break up or dissolve major blood clots that cause pulmonary embolism. It is introduced through groin veins up to the pulmoary arery where the catheter are left for few hours then removed.
