Vascular Ultrasound is a noninvasive test that healthcare providers use to evaluate blood flow in the arteries and veins of the arms, neck and legs and abdomen. Providers use this test to diagnose blood clots and peripheral artery disease. You may also have this test to see if you’re a good candidate for angioplasty or to check blood vessel health after bypass or stent.
An abdominal aortic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to see vascular structures inside your belly. This test checks the blood vessels for any narrowing (stenosis) or dilation (aneurysm).
The test involves measuring the blood pressure in the ankle and comparing it to the blood pressure in the arm. A blood pressure cuff and a special ultrasound device called a Doppler probe are used for this purpose.
The Tibial Brachial Index is similar to the ABI, but it focuses specifically on comparing the blood pressure in the ankle to that in the arm, without directly involving the brachial pressure. Tibial arteries are arteries in the lower leg. The Tibial Brachial Index is useful in cases where the ABI might not provide accurate results due to calcification or other factors.
Venous Mapping is a safe, painless, and non-invasive procedure that provides valuable information about the health of the veins. It helps healthcare providers diagnose and manage a variety of venous conditions like venous insuffiency, allowing for early intervention and prevention of complications.
